Here's how it works: You sign on as a Hidden Harvest sponsor for just $200 and give us 5 gift certificates to your restaurant at a minimum value of $25. We will hide your certificates, provide clues and guide the treasure hunters to a successful end. We’ll promote your participation in the Hidden Harvest by posting your logo with a link to your website on the Chicago Food Day website. We’ll also include your restaurant name in program communications before, during and after the activity.

Pilot Light: Empowering Children with Healthy Relationships with Food

In Chicago, one in five children struggles with food insecurity and approximately one in three children is overweight or obese. These startling statistics – some of the highest in the nation – make the Food Day movement, and its 2014 priority of food justice, so important to our city.
Pilot Light is excited to be a part of the Food Day movement in Chicago. Pilot Light believes it can make a change for the future health and well-being of children by integrating food into the classroom curriculum.  Their team of chefs and teachers work together to develop classroom lessons that integrate food into the everyday subjects children already learn in school, such as math, science, and social studies. This model leads children to make connections between food and its important role in their lives.

Pilot Light’s goal is to empower children with the knowledge, attitudes, and skills they need to have healthy relationships with food. The competencies that children gain from their program will serve children throughout their lives and spread their message to the broader community.

Pilot Light is proud to partner in the Chicago Food Day effort as an organization working toward a nation where food is healthy, affordable, and sustainably produced. You can see Pilot Light on October 24th at Two North Riverside at 9:30am. Their chefs and founders, Paul Kahan, Jason Hammel, and Justin Large will be doing an interactive food poetry slam lesson with children from Chicago Public Schools. Beginning at 11:30am, you can pick up a harvest taco from Big Star with 100% of all proceeds going to support Pilot Light’s work in schools. The Two North Riverside Plaza Food Day event is a partnership between The Plaza Project, Gary Comer Youth Center, Growing Healthy People and Building A Healthier Chicago.
We hope that you will stop by Two North Riverside to see them in action!
